Faculty of Ecology

 

Since 1986 (after Chernobyl accident), ecological situation in Ukraine has aggravated a problem of  population’s trust to own agricultural production. It  creates additional obstacles to agricultural export. It is necessary for Ukraine to have qualified specialists for correction of current situation in the sphere of production, processing, consumption and agricultural production export. They must be professionally engaged in practical application and distribution of the international standards of quality, in increasing of public consciousness and production practices of agricultural production and its ecological purity, in necessary actions development of the Ukrainian economy consumer orientation. The initiative of  Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University gets approval of the official bodies for the administration of the higher education of Ukraine and of the agrarian education in particular.

In 1999, the new major 0708 “Ecology”  in the specialty 6.070800 “Ecology and environmental protection”, the educational and qualification bachelor level has been launched.

In March, 2001, Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University started the implementation of the joint European Tempus TACIS project “Management stable chains of food production in Ukraine”. The relevant departments of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad and Chernihiv Regions authorities endorse this initiative.

The project has expired in March, 2004. The primary project objective has consisted in implementation of the new curriculum of ecologists training  at Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University in accordance with requirements of the European Educational Standards. The total of project financing amounted 467,000 EUR. Cofounder of the project is the consortium which consists of three higher educational institutions of Europe: Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University (Ukraine), Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany) and National Veterinary School (Lyon, France). Academic staff and PhD students have had the opportunity to study placements with these partner institutions.

In 2003, the Faculty of  Ecology was created as new structural division of Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University. Nowadays, there are full-time, part-time and external mode of study for 566 students.

The specialized Scientific Council on PhD defense (27.821.01 in 03.00.20 “Biotechnology” (Agricultural Sciences) functions properly.

Main directions of faculty scientific work are ecological biotechnology; biotechnology of biologically active agents; food ecology; DNA technologies in plant breeding and animal breeding; ecological bases of plants protection; interaction of the organisms genotype and environment; radionuclide migration in links of a food chain.

The staff of the Faculty of  Ecology strives for high quality training of the specialists conforming to the European standards.
